Concept
In most countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe, the very topic of bringing awareness to decision makers on the wide-ranging risks of Business and Industrial Espionage has rarely been dealt in public congresses. And if so, the focus has been often limited to issues related to data theft threat and/or crypto-ransomware threats.
Switzerland, along with other countries, such as Israel, USA, South Korea and Japan are since years the pioneers in alerting, providing awareness tools and offering mitigation in case of espionage to all kind of businesses, from the smallest to the biggest, in a vast PPP collaboration framework.
Different countries have prioritized the Cyber threat response with different priorities and depth. For Switzerland, the espionage topic is on the top of the security issues list, a logical consequence of the Swiss Confederation’s macro-economic panorama, built by numbers of companies delivering products with a huge high added-value : e.g. army technological providers, machine tool industry, luxury and watchmaker business, pharmaceutical and chemical businesses, as well an important growing number of cutting-edge IT services companies (secure cloud, encryption technologies, highly innovative start-ups).
Aim
The first edition of the “Cyber Espionage Awareness Day for Business” (CEAB) in Bucharest aims at providing privileged insights and practical guidelines to business representatives and decision makers beyond the usual first layer of cyber security protection. It is meant to provide information to participants in order to understand the nowadays Cyber espionage in business and to offer a platform of dialogue between experts in the field and the business communities.
The CEAB is meant to be a kick-off event that should be repeated periodically as the organizers believe that the rapid implementation of digitalization projects will highly be prioritized over the coming years, both in the private and public sectors. And so will increase the Cyber threats and digital espionage.
The congress will cover the following topics and threats:
- company policy vulnerability : use and abuse of IT, IoT and “smart” means during office time and in strategic board meetings; bringing personal smartphone everywhere
- unaware insider threat: an employee which smartphone contains a voice spyware
- unaware insider threat: an employee sharing vital info per mail as a consequence of hacked credentials of a colleague or superior (mail, etc.)
- unaware insider threat : an employee discussing confidential information on Linkedin or other social networks with persons believed to be “colleagues” from similar companies (social engineering)
- unaware insider threat : an employee in business trip behaving like at the office (letting unwatched IT/IoT means in the hotel room, in the business lounge, accessing unsecure /not trustable public wifi networks etc.)
- malicious insider threat : an angry employee unveiling confidential information as a revenge following conflictual relationships within the companies
- criminal insider threat : a corrupted employee unveiling confidential information after being paid for doing it
- cyber-threat : from spywares in smartphones to hacking surveillance webcams and printers + intranet
- cyber-attacks : from malwares hiding spywares to brutal force attacks on the core system of a company
